What is Static Pressure?
Static pressure (SP) measures resistance to airflow in your dust collection system.
- Measured in inches of water column (")
- Higher SP = more resistance
- Collector must overcome total SP
Pressure Loss Sources
- Duct friction: ~0.5-1" per 100 ft
- 90° elbows: ~2.5" each
- 45° elbows: ~1.2" each
- Y-branches: ~1.5" each
- Filters: 1-3" depending on type
Collector Selection
- Match CFM at calculated SP
- Check manufacturer curves
- Add 20% safety margin
- Higher SP needs more HP
Reducing Pressure
- Use larger diameter ducts
- Minimize elbows and bends
- Use 45° instead of 90° bends
- Keep duct runs short
